RAPIER
======
SHORT: a graceful double-edged espée
OTHER SHORT NOUNS: sword, rapier, rappier

LONG:
This long, graceful espée has a sharp, double-edged blade forged from the
finest quality steel. The grip is composed of grooved bone and connected to
the deadly blade by a delicately shaped ricasso. Most striking of all in this
beautiful sword is its cross; ornately shaped tendrils of brass sweep across
the hilt of the sword in a breathtaking display of craftsmanship and beauty.

COMPONENTS:

BLADE
The highly polished steel of the blade splendidly reflects the light away from
its razor-sharp edges. It tapers to a fine triangular point; despite its deadly
sharpness, this weapon was obviously meant to be a lightweight thrusting weapon,
more suited for quick, agile attacks rather than traditional swordplay.

GRIP
The grip of this sword arcs slightly outward at the center. It is carved from a
solid piece of polished bone and lined with shallow, regularly interspaced grooves.
Tiny strips of thin black leather have been wound into the grooves, providing an
additional measure of comfort and stability for the wielder.

RICASSO
The brass ricasso of the sword rests just above its hilt, providing a smooth
transition from the grip to the deadly blade. Though polished and flat, it has been
unusually shaped, calling to mind the image of licking flames. The end result of the
illusion is rather impressive, making it appear as though the shining blade is
sprouting in a fiery burst from the rapier's hilt.

CROSS
The crossguard of this espée is an unusually fine work of craftsmanship; ornately
shaped tendrils of brass sweep across the hilt of the sword gracefully, as if they
were blown across the wielder's hand by a strong gust of wind. The exquisite curves
of the cage appear deceptively fragile. On closer inspection, however, you can see
that they are actually quite cleverly aligned to serve a dual purpose - not only to
deflect and protect the hand of its owner, but also to catch and disarm any thin
blades of an opponent.
